Publications

In 2018 the Unit published English-IsiZulu bilingual picture dictionary for the Foundation Phase (Gr. R-3). This is the Official Foundation Phase CAPS-Linked Illustrated Dictionary of the Government of the Republic of South Africa. This dictionary was published by the South African National Lexicography Units.

Isichazamazwi SesiZulu is a comprehensive explanatory monolingual dictionary which was published in 2006 by New Dawn Publishers. This publication incorporates the work of Isichazamazwi 1 and Isichazamazwi 2 with a total of 22 246 (Twenty Two Thousand Two Hundred and Forty Six) isiZulu entries. It was edited by the Executive Director of the Unit, Dr. Mpumelelo Mbatha. Entries in this publication are in the form of full words and not by stems as in Isichazamazwi 1 and Isichazamazwi 2. There is a lot of other lexicographic adaptations which had to be effected in order to be in line with modern lexicographic trends.

Isichazamazwi 2 is isiZulu monolingual dictionary which was published in 1985 by Oxford University Press. This publication was edited by AC Nkabinde and was published by Oxford University Press. This is a publication comprising of 6 000 isiZulu entries.

This is the first publication of the Unit which was published in 1982 by Shuter and Shooter. This is isiZulu monolingual dictionary comprising of 3 500 isiZulu entries defined in isiZulu. It was edited by AC Nkabinde and was published by Shuter and Shooter.
