Linguistic functions:

The Unit’s Linguistic Functions consists of Planning of the dictionary

Planning of the dictionary entails:

  • analysing the needs of Isikhungo Sesichazamazwi SesiZulu;
  • comprehensive data collection;
  • data documentation;
  • research work;
  • checking / verifying pronounciation as well as definitions of some lexical items and editing of data.

 

Administrative functions

Administrative functions of the Unit include inter alia:

  • planning and management of the lexicography Unit;
  • administration of finances and the employment of personnel of the lexicography Unit;
  • advertising and marketing of the products of the Unit;
  • granting access to the language material and sources of the Unit to researchers in accordance with the policy of the Board of Directors and
  • ensuring the availability of support services such as information and computer services.
